Media Interview with Presidential Spokespeson Ernesto Abella
13 July 2016
MARIE: Pakinggan po natin si Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella kaugnay po ito ng naging ruling pa rin ng UN court sa The Hague, yung Permanent Court Arbitration sa The Hague.

SEC. ABELLA: This is just a response to the question, if I had any comments. This is basically, like I said, we are all going by the official statement released by the Secretary of the DFA. And basically it is that we welcome the ruling. However, we proceed with restraint and sobriety. Now whatever the results are, the legislative part has been done, and so we are now awaiting for the right responses coming from the government. So, I’m sure that everything will be for the common good especially for those who are directly involved, including the fishermen, but let us wait for the right response at the right time.

Q: When is the right time?

SEC. ABELLA: When it unfolds, that will be the right time. Thank you very much.

Q: Sir, yung application lang, mayroong fisherman kasi kahapon—

SEC. ABELLA: Like I said, I do not… I cannot make any statements regarding that. But all I can say is that, let us wait for the right time.

Q: INAUDIBLE

SEC. ABELLA: We did have the—there were some experts there.

Q: Sir, how about the other—

SEC. ABELLA: They were… from the Justice, from the SC.

Q: Sir, ano yung na discuss sa Cabinet meeting?

SEC. ABELLA: Basically, how we should respond. That’s all.

Q: INAUDIBLE

SEC. ABELLA: Updates and also very mature and very responsible.

Q: Initial reaction po ni President Duterte about it?

SEC. ABELLA: Again, it was welcome but also very responsible. It was a very responsible response.

Q: Sir, did the Chinese Embassy reached out at any point from the announcement?

SEC. ABELLA: Let’s leave at that. Thank you very much, it’s been a great day.

Q: Yung sa satisfaction rating—

SEC. ABELLA: There is no comment from PRRD. However, I’m sure he would appreciate that such. And he would also say, if I know him, that “trabaho lang iyan, that’s part of the job.” And that he will continue to do our part. Thank you very much.
