Tungo sa pakikipag-usap ni Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez at alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., binabaan ng ilang mga retailers ang supermarket prices ng asukal. Pinababaan ng mga sumusunod ang kanilang mga retail prices mula P90 to P110 per kilo down to P70 per kilo: Robinsons Supermarket ay nangakong magbibenta ng one million kilos at P70 per kilo; nangako naman ang SM Supermarket na ibibenta ang kanilang inventory ng asukal; samantalang nangako din ang Puregold na ibababa nila ang presyo ng asukal for one million kilos, at P70 per kilo; pero hindi po two million as previously reported.
Hindi po kasama dito ang S&R dahil sila po ay wholesale na nagbibenta at hindi po kasama dito; retail po ang pinag-uusapan ng mga nagbaba ng presyo. Hinirit po ito ni Pangulong Marcos sa kanilang mga sakripisyo na mabawasan ang kanilang kita at profits bilang tulong sa ordinaryong consumer.
Samantala naman, tuloy pa rin ang pag-i-inspect sa mga warehouses ng asukal bilang gamit ang visitorial powers ng Customs at ibang mga ahensiya tulad ng DTI at Sugar Regulatory Administration para malaman ang tunay na estado at dami ng asukal sa merkado at sa mga warehouses tungo sa pagresolba ng tila artipisyal na krisis sa asukal.
Kahit sa kasalukuyan, nagsasagawa ng simultaneous operations sa Deparo, Caloocan; Balut, Tondo; at San Nicolas sa Manila; Rosales, Pangasinan; San Fernando, Pampanga; Ibaan, Batangas; at sa Davao. May iba na nagresulta sa pagpiprisenta ng kuwestiyonableng mga dokumento, may iba naman na nakapagprisenta nang maaayos. So tuluy-tuloy pa rin ang mga operasyon natin at nagpapatunay ito, sabi ni Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez, na seryoso ang kampanya natin para malinis ang sindikato ng hoarding at illegal importation ng asukal.

PRESS SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Depende po iyan sa magiging findings natin. Ang tinitingnan natin sa ngayon ay kung artipisyal ba ang shortage ng asukal o hindi at ang pag-a-allocate po ay magiging basehan kung mayroon ngang kakulangan o hindi, so titingnan pa po natin.
SAM MEDENILLA/BUSINESS MIRROR: Tapos, Ma’am, iyong last question na lang po. When will SRA start its consultation for Sugar Order No. 1 or the production guidance for next crop year 2022 to 2023 po?
PRESS SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Hinihintay lang po natin iyong kanilang resolusyon. As you know, nag-resign nga po ang ilang mga miyembro ng Sugar Regulatory Board, so aayusin muna natin iyon at saka natin maipa-follow up po iyong sa katanungan ninyo.

MICHELLE GUILLANG/TRIBUNE: Good afternoon po, Secretary Trixie. I hope you are recovering well.

MICHELLE GUILLANG/TRIBUNE: My question is, you mentioned po na leading supermarkets have agreed to President Marcos to bring down or sell one million kilos of sugar at 70 pesos per kilo. How did they come with such an agreement? May naging deal po ba iyong leading supermarkets kay President Marcos?
SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Actually, napakiusapan lang po sila ni Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez na bilang tulong na lang sa ordinaryong consumer na pababaan kahit pansamantala ang kanilang mga presyo until mairesolba natin o maitawid natin hanggang itong Setyembre or sa harvest season na baka naman maipababa natin by that time ang presyo ng asukal.
MICHELLE GUILLANG/TRIBUNE: So, in other words, ma’am, pakiusap lang? Walang naging deal?
SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Wala po. Pakiusap ito.
MICHELLE GUILLANG/TRIBUNE: Thank you po.
MARICEL HALILI/TV5: Ma’am, magandang hapon po. Ma’am, I’m sorry, I’m not sure if you have already mentioned this sa introduction po ninyo, sa opening statement kasi medyo may problem lang po iyong internet ko kanina. Pero just a clarification po about the statement of Senator Migz Zubiri na inaprubahan na raw ni President Bongbong Marcos iyong direct importation ng mga industrial users. Ano po iyong napag-usapan tungkol dito?
SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Ito po iyong sinasabi na 150,000 metric tons ng asukal na ini-import, kalahati na mapupunta doon sa industrial users po. So iyon lang po iyon, wala naman pong ibang napag-usapan.
MARICEL HALILI/TV5: So, ma’am, clarification po: Pinapayagan na po iyong direct importation ng mga industrial users? So hindi na po siya dadaan sa usual process?
SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Ang tinitingnan po natin ngayon kung ano … hindi pa po yata final kasi may wini-workout lang. Ia-announce po namin kapag final na po ito. It is, yes, a proposal and it is seriously being considered. So baka may advance information si Senator Migz. But right now, the information is that it is proposed, and it is seriously being considered. Ia-announce po namin kapag pinal na po.

MODERATOR: Okay po. We also have another question sent by Cathy Valente ng Manila Times: The Manila Times reported about the one billion-worth of smuggled rice that were unloaded at the port of Iloilo and released by the port’s Customs authorities. Does the Palace have a statement on this?
SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Lahat po ng iligal na aktibidad as a matter of course ay iimbestigahan. So, upon verification, sigurado po kami na in the ordinary course of the service of their mandates or the executive of their mandates, iyong mga nararapat na ahensiya ay magtatrabaho nang ayon sa kanilang duties at obligations.
So, yes po, we are sure na iimbestigahan po ito.
MODERATOR: Secretary, we have a question from JP Soriano of GMA: May limit ba na one kilo doon sa puwedeng bilhin sa supermarket?
SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Yes po. Para po lahat ay makapag-avail, nililimita po to one kilo per customer po.
MODERATOR: Another question po from Anna Bajo of GMA News Online: May schedule na po ba ng importation ng 150,000 metric tons ng sugar?
SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Wala pa po. Ia-announce namin kapag final na po. As you know, balancing act po ang importation. Hindi po natin gustong isabay doon sa harvest season.
Asec. Dale, iko-confirm ko rin lang po iyong dalawang state visit to Indonesia at saka to Singapore. Nitong September 4 to 6 sa Indonesia, at 6 to 7 sa Singapore. Kung may katanungan dito—actually, wala pa tayong masyadong detalye pero kino-confirm namin na tuloy po ito. As for the United States, for the visit doon sa US, it is still being worked out. Although, nagsabi ang Pangulo that he will be going, so we will release the details on this as they come in.
MODERATOR: Secretary, we have one last question from Sam Medenilla: Ask lang po namin kung may new SRB members na po?
SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Wala pa po. Wala pa po tayong natatanggap. So hihintayin po natin iyong announcement.

At subaybayan ninyo at tuluy-tuloy po kasi iyong operasyon natin dito sa pag-i-inspect ng mga warehouses so we can get to the bottom of what appears to be an artificial shortage. Of course, whether or not it is artificial will depend on the evidence produced by these warehouse operations.
