Farmers in Balamban, Cebu will be able to increase their agricultural productivity with the recent turnover of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and National Irrigation Agency (NIA) of the PhP2 million worth of communal irrigation system (CIS) in their area.
The said project is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III to improve the livelihood of the farmers nationwide.
The CIS of Bayong Small Irrigation Project was entrusted to the officials and members of Bayong Lamesa Irrigators Association, Inc.
Grace B. Fua, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II, said the Bayong Small Irrigation Project would serve over 50 hectares of land and will benefit more than 124 agrarian reform beneficiary (ARB) households in Barangays Lamesa, Vito, and Cansomoroy.
“With the construction of the irrigation project, the ARBs will now be able to increase their agricultural production due to sufficient water supply for their crops,” she said.
Fua explained that the NIA constructed irrigation pipelines and structures to irrigate high-value crops on the mountainous slopes of Balamban.
She added that with this development, the farmers are expected to generate more income from their farmlands.

P2M irrigation project palalakasin ang mga pananim ng mga magsasaka sa Cebu
Mapapalakas ng mga magsasaka sa Balamban, Cebu ang kanilang agricultural productivity dahil sa kamakailang pagsasagawa ng turnover ng Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) at National Irrigation Agency (NIA) ang PhP2 milyong communal irrigation system (CIS) sa kanilng lugar.
Ang nasabing proyekto ay naaayon sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. kay DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III na mapaunlad ang pamumuhay ng mga magsasaka sa bansa.
Ang CIS ng Bayong Small Irrigation Project ay ipinamahala sa mga opisyal at kasapi ng Bayong Lamesa Irrigators Association, Inc.
Ayon kay Grace B. Fua, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II, ang Bayong Small Irrigation Project ay magsisilbi samahigit 50 ektarya ng lupa at pakikinabangan ng mahigit 124 kabahayan ng mga agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARB) sa mga barangay ng Lamesa, Vito at Cansomoroy.
“Sa pagtatayo ng proyektong patubig, tataas ang produksyon sa agrikultura ng mga ARB dahil sa sapat na tubig na kailangan ng kanilang mga pananaim,” aniya.
Ipinaliwanag ni Fua na itinayo ng NIA ang mga irrigation pipelines at structures upang mapatubigan ang mga high-value crops sa bulubunduking lugar sa Balamban.
Idinagdag pa niya dahil sap ag-unlad na ito, ang mga magsasaka ay inaasahang magkakaroon ng mas malaking kita mula sa kanilang mga sakahan.
