President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said he will closely monitor and sustain the positive momentum of the “Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas” nationwide clean-up program arising from efforts of barangay and youth officials across the country.
“Ano ba ang bago rito? Ano ang bago na itinatatag natin sa Bagong Pilipinas? Ang kaayusan at kalinisan sa bawat barangay ay gagawin nating tuloy-tuloy; buwan-buwan na susukatin ang performance ng Barangay Council, at kikilalanin natin at pararangalan natin ang mga outstanding na performance,” President Marcos said in his message on Tuesday, January 9.
“Higit sa lahat, ang kaayusan at kalinisan sa bawat barangay ay tutukan ng inyong Pangulo. Iyan ang isang bago sa Bagong Pilipinas. Mga Kabarangay, saludo ako sa inyo!” the President said.
Following the initial success of the program, President Marcos emphasized the crucial role of consistency of “bayanihan” efforts, particularly in cleaning up roads, canals, markets and schools towards greener, healthier and safer communities across the country.
“Sa pangunguna ni Secretary Benhur Abalos, at mga DILG officials sa buong bansa, kasama ang mga newly elected Barangay at SK officials, sabay-sabay na nilinis ang mga kalsada, estero, labas ng mga paaralan at palengke sa bawat komunidad sa araw na ito,” the President said, pointing out the program’s crucial role in the “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda.
Since “National Community Development Day” began last Saturday, January 6, thousands of barangay and youth councils took to social media how they implemented the President’s clean-up program in their respective communities.
From January 6 to 7, about 90,000 Facebook posts carried the hashtag #KALINISANsaBagongPilipinas, about 43,000 posts used the #BuildBetterMore hashtag, while about 40,000 posts included the #CleanCommunities hashtag to support the program.
Interior Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., meanwhile, announced on Tuesday, January 9 that the Marcos administration collected over 5.1 million kilograms of trash since the nationwide clean-up program began.
According to the Interior Secretary’s national status report, about 5,143,775 kilograms of trash were collected by about 1,234,844 participating individuals and 245,393 local officials.
Secretary Abalos said they will conduct quarterly recognition of local government units that will efficiently implement the KALINISAN program of President Marcos to ensure their participation in the government’s initiative.
