PBBM calls on Pinoys to conserve energy, adopt culture of responsible power use

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday urged Filipinos to reflect on their habits on electricity use and to foster a culture of responsible energy use as the country observes the 2023 National Energy Consciousness Month (NECM).

“As we pursue the path of sustainable development, it is important that we develop a keen awareness of our energy consumption,” President Marcos said in his message for the month-long observance.

“Thus, this month-long event serves as a reminder for us to reflect on our energy habits and foster a culture of responsible energy use.”

According to the President, the country must also recognize this year’s Energy [Efficiency] Award aimed at recognizing individuals and organizations that exemplify strong dedication to achieving energy conservation, and are taking the lead in promoting energy efficiency.

This year’s awardees, he said, have set a standard for others to follow, showing that sustainable practices can go hand-in-hand with progress.

“I hope that with their example we can inspire the rest of the country to become more conscious in utilizing our energy supply more responsibly,” said Marcos, assuring the public that the government will continue to explore alternative energy sources and implement policies that encourage energy-efficient practices across all sectors of society.

“With everyone’s help, we can build a more sustainable and resilient future for us and for the generations that will follow.”

The Department of Energy (DOE) celebrates this month its 51st anniversary and simultaneously leads the observance of the 2023 National Energy Consciousness Month.

The agency has lined up for NECM activities geared toward finding sound energy solutions, creating sustainable practices, and embracing emerging energy technologies and applications.

The 2023 NECM has for its theme, “Sustainable and Responsible Energy Future: Fueling Hope, Lighting the Way,” which seeks to trigger conversations on the efficient energy use and rally multisectoral support on the government’s energy action plan, as well as strongly advocate for energy conservation.
