President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday called on the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to maintain its commitment to combating illicit activities and ensure responsible practices within the gaming industry, while maintaining social relevance.
“Let this anniversary therefore be a call to the future—a future where PAGCOR is at the front and center in reshaping the gaming landscape with responsible practices, unwavering integrity, and a steadfast commitment to combating illicit activities,” President Marcos said in his speech during the 40th anniversary of the PAGCOR.
President Marcos also expressed his optimism that PAGCOR’s brightest years are still ahead as he acknowledged its significant contributions to nation-building, particularly in the country’s tourism sector, job creation, extending social services to marginalized sectors and supporting the government’s key programs.
“Certainly, PAGCOR has made an indelible mark in our society with its undeniable contribution to nation-building,” President Marcos said.
Highlighting the immense resources at PAGCOR’s disposal and the capacity of its workforce, the President urged PAGCOR to set new standards and continue being a leading force in the gaming industry that not only achieves financial success, but also creates a social impact.
“May you remain a shining example of what it means to be workers at PAGCOR—individuals who stand firm in their dedication to service, excellence, and integrity, [and] who are determined to leave their mark not only in the gaming industry, but in our society as a whole,” he said.
According to PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco, the agency’s total Contributions to Nation Building (CNB) amounted to around Php607 billion for the last four decades, while its total dividend remittances since 2011 is now at Php64 billion.
Under the Marcos Administration, PAGCOR’s total CNB totaled to Php45 billion. The agency targets to reach Php70 billion by the end of the year.
Among the programs implemented by PAGCOR are establishment of classrooms, multi-purpose evacuation centers, and grants of assistance or subsidy to institutions, government offices and individuals.
The corporation also supports the funding of the programs under the Universal Health Care, the Philippines Sports Commission, and the Dangerous Drugs Board. PND
