Commuters stand to benefit from the government’s ongoing and upcoming transport infrastructure projects that will address inadequate public transport and traffic congestion, particularly in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
During a press briefing in Malacañang on Friday, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro cited several transport infrastructure projects that will enhance connectivity, commuter safety, and spur economic growth.
She said infrastructure projects, like the recently-opened SM North EDSA Concourse and Busway Station in Quezon City, will provide safe, accessible, reliable, and affordable mass transportation.
She also said that in addition to the newer design for the SM North EDSA Concourse, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) ensured the station has elevators and ramps for senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women.
“Hatid ng bagong estasyon na mapabuti at mapaginhawa ng bawat commuter. Para makapaglaan sila ng maraming oras sa kanilang pamilya at mahal sa buhay,” Castro said.
Castro likewise cited other government projects that involve the private sector, such as the Metro Manila Subway Project and the North-South Commuter Railway Project.
She said two of the transport projects being built in collaboration between DOTr and SM Prime Holdings are the Ortigas Bus Station and ASEANA Bus Station.
Donations from the private sector fund several of the transport infrastructure projects, she said.
Castro said the government has also lined up the Cebu Bus Transit and the Davao Public Transport Modernization for immediate completion.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon to fast-track key infrastructure projects.
The President said that infrastructure is not just building roads and railways but also delivering safe, reliable, and future-ready mobility for Filipinos. | PND
