Malaysian investors showed interest in the ‘Maharlika Investment Fund’ – PBBM

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. disclosed on Thursday that Malaysian investors have expressed interest in putting their money in the Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF).

“Yes, lahat. Lahat naman nag-express ng interest because negosyo ‘yan,” President Marcos told reporters if Malaysian businessmen are interested to invest in the sovereign fund.

“Now, there’s a new fund, now can we enter?” the chief executive added, referring to the Malaysian investors’ reaction when asked about the MIF.

The President also clarified that representatives from the private sector would want to know the specifics of the business first before making any investment.

“You have to be specific. If it’s – once we get to that point, then we can talk about the amounts that are going to be invested both by the fund and, of course, by our private sector partners,” the President said.

The chief executive assured that the Malaysian’s experience with the 1 Malaysian Development Berhad, or the 1MDB, is not going to be a detriment to the MIF.

President Marcos noted that the Malaysian investors are “the most careful of all.”

“Hindi mag-i-invest ‘yan kung nakita nila, ‘Naku! Pareho ito doon sa naging problema dito’,” President Marcos said.

“So, as long as you can assure them that what their poor experience was here, the terrible things that happened here, hindi mangyayari sa fund natin,” he added.

President Marcos reiterated that the MIF will be “run professionally and without undue political influence” and the daily decisions on investments will be made by the financial managers who will be put in place. *[PND]*
