MMFF launches Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta 50@P50 and Unveiling of Mural along EDSA for its 50th anniversary

Commemorating its 50th anniversary this year, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) launches today back-to-back initiatives — Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta 50@P50 and Unveiling of Mural along EDSA — which honor its rich history while engaging the public in celebrating Filipino cinema.

Through the MMFF’s “Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta,” the public can watch iconic MMFF movies from the past 50 years on the big screen for a very affordable price of P50.

A total of 50 MMFF movies spanning a variety of genres—drama, comedy, action, horror, romance, adventure, historical, musical, and fantasy—to cater to different audience, will be shown in selected cinemas nationwide from September 25 to October 15.

MMDA Acting Chairman and MMFF Overall Concurrent Chairman Atty. Don Artes said the initiative aims to recognize the MMFF’s decades-long contributions to the Philippine film industry and celebrate the evolution of the MMFF films throughout the years.

“With the Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta screenings, we will bring some of the most memorable MMFF films back to the big screen for just 50 pesos, allowing both new audiences and long- time fans to experience the magic of those beloved films once again. These films represent the very best of what the MMFF has offered over the past five decades,” said Artes during today’s launch.

Meanwhile, the MMFF unveiled the “Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta” mural along EDSA, featuring hand-painted actors and actresses who have graced the big screen from the past 50 years. The mural features faces of movie icons such as Dolphy, Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, Christopher De Leon, Maricel Soriano, Vic Sotto, Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Vice Ganda, Amy Austria, Joseph Estrada, Anthony Alonzo, and Fernando Poe Jr.

“This mural stands as a reminder of the timeless stories that have captured the hearts of generations and will continue to inspire future ones. This also serves as a tribute to the filmmakers, actors, and artists who have helped shape the MMFF throughout the years,” said Artes.

Hand-painted posters of past entries will also adorn the walls along EDSA in partnership with iAcademy, a specialized Computing, Business, and Design academic institution.

Artes also expressed his gratitude to the “filmmakers, stakeholders, and everyone who has been part of this journey and continue to support the MMFF.”

“As we look forward to another 50 years, let us continue to support and promote the MMFF and the local film industry, and encourage our Filipino filmmakers to create meaningful and impactful films that resonate with audiences both local and abroad,” said Artes.

National artist Ricky Lee and other key figures from the film industry, including members of the Actor’s Guild of the Philippines (AKTOR), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), MOWELFUND and the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) attended the launch.
