Agusan del Norte farmers learn skills in corn production technology

A total of 25 agrarian reform beneficiary (ARB) members of the Doña Rosario Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative located in Brgy. Dona Rosario, Tubay, Agusan del Norte were provided with additional skills in corn production technology by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

DAR-Agusan del Norte Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Glen A. Petilla said the training will empower the local corn farmers to boost their corn production by assisting them in enhancing their crop cultivation techniques.

“DAR remains committed to supporting the ARBs in their efforts to increase productivity, which in turn will help them secure food sufficiency not only for the province but for the entire country,” he said.

Petilla disclosed that the completion of this training is a significant step towards empowering farmers, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to improve corn production and post-harvest management in the province.

“The farmers were trained in seed selection, corn morphology, land preparation, planting, integrated nutrient management, fertilizers computation, weeds management, integrated pest management, harvesting operation, drying and storing operation, and crop cutting,” he added.

The initiative is part of DAR’s Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project Sustainable Livelihood Support (CRFPSP-SLS), in the pursuit of sustainable livelihoods and food security to enhance and sustain the agricultural productivity of agrarian reform communities as an adaptation measure toward climate change resiliency.
