President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on May 18, 2017 has led the inauguration of the Miranda Bridge II, which connects the Municipality of Carmen and Tagum City in Davao del Norte.
Joining the President in the inauguration is Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar. Also present are Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence Go, Davao del Norte Governor Anthony Rafael del Rosario, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Davao del Norte Representative Antonio Floirendo Jr., Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon, and Carmen Municipal Mayor Viriginia Perandos The 650-meter long bridge is widened from two lanes to four lanes in a bid to improve transport of agriculture products as well as mass transit. President Duterte kicks off his speech by citing the importance of spending for infrastructure developments as it provides employment for many Filipinos. President Duterte, likewise, points out the need to improve the peace and order situation so that government assets will be protected. He also echoes his stance against corruption, and he urges public officials not to shortchange the government. Moreover, he orders government officials to remain humble. The President discusses about the ill effects of illegal drugs to the youth as well as to Overseas Filipino Workers who have relatives in the country who are hook on illegal drugs. He reiterates his vow to fulfill his campaign promises of eradicating illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality in the country. President Rodgrigo Roa Duterte has administered the oath of office of Alan Peter Cayetano as the new Foreign Affairs Secretary. The oath of office was held on May 18, 2017 at the Presidential Guesthouse in Panacan, Davao City.
The Commission on Appointments confirmed Cayetano’s appointment as Secretary of Foreign Affairs replacing Acting Secretary Enrique Manalo. Joining Cayetano during the oath-taking ceremony were his wife Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni ‘Lani’ Cayetano, his sister Taguig City-Pateros 2nd District Representative and former Senator Pia Cayetano and her son Lucas, his brother Lino Cayetano, Fille Cayetano, and Jennifer Reyes.
